..... am always amazed how we in this society, find it easier to allow our kids to watch war, gangster, horror and murder films etc than it is to show the human body in its natural form..odd!

phil

I couldn't agree with you more! The horror invoked by the human body is amazing, I just do not understand it one bit - I guess it's the same problem that forces mothers to go into toilets if they want to breast feed their babies - such a natural, beautiful and loving act that too many in our perverse society (and I don't mean the SWPP!!)  view as disgusting - I just don't get it!

I don't think that is what people find disgusting, to me it's an arse provocatively aimed at the camera like the harvest moon, that's what I think is just too much, like I said in my post, if one of my daughters came home with a portrait like that, I would disown her, immediately.

Just to be clear David... Is that the regard in which you hold my work? Either way I think you should make your opinion more than transparent just so we all know where we stand.

No Damien it is not the regard in which I hold your work, there are many photographers who shoot this type of work and generally speaking,  I am totally against it. Not any individual but the entire genre.

I have seen some incredibly beautiful image by you and those I admire, but if you choose to emphasise bare bums in a not so tasteful way, then I will be opposed to them, just as I would be opposed to anyone's.

thank you for clarifying your position.

Although I personally consider it blinkered in the extreme and somewhat out of sync with todays world I respect your right to have and hold your opinion and even though it doesn't match my own view I support your right to have your view and would defend that right to the end.

I can only hope and assume that you will respect my right of opinion and my right to exercise my abilities in any (legal) field I see fit without any prejudice or persecution.

cheers for now...

David, correct me if I am wrong, you hold a fellowship and obviously understand the requirements of an image far better than me. Surely, regardless of the subject matter you should be able to look at an image objectively and appreciate it regardless of personal beliefs.

I think that is a fair question but can only answer it with my own view. When I look at art or indeed judge, I try very hard to ignore my personal likes and preferences. My intention is to view or judge on merit and ability first and then and only then "Taint" my view with personal opinion. It is always easy but it is what I strive to do.

As an example: I recognise the genius of Picaso... but personally am only fond of his blue period. I hope that helps

Indeed I would, I would not, however, refrain from expressing an opinion.

I think anyone would have difficulty, Adam, being objective 100% of the time some images can be so striking as to evoke a response, whether positive or negative, pun not intended.
