Philip! You are not gatecrashing. Everyone is welcome. Smiley

I got so intrigued about this thread that I tried to log in to DWF again to see what it was all about but it wouldn't let me in. LOL Oh well. I'll just have to imagine.

But he is right about this place giving that impression. I think thats the case with most forums though, you always have the hardcore members who post a lot and have their in-jokes etc.  It is quite intimidating for a new member.  (intimidating until you see photos of them drunk with bad ties or traffic cones on their heads)

Same here.

There were comments early in the post about it not being a porn convention and about the clothes the model was wearing.  These seemed to me very much to be questioning the the genre of photography being taught and the readers wives comments were not needed.  I agree the photos linked to in the thread are bad photos in their own right but this was not the point being made originally.  My DWF membership has now been cancelled as I find it is just not for me.

Really sorry to hear that, Bev, will miss your open and honest contributions there Sad

I think the fact that the photos were "snapshots" at totally wrong angles led to those comments (reading it as I have, I could be wrong) rather than it being about the "seminar" or "shootout" or "speaker" ... I hope that makes sense (I very often don't LOL).

I will repeat, though, at no point, that I saw, was any one individual picked on.

But, like I say, this is my personal interpretation.

I can never understand the need to take a camera to a convention or show, i go to learn and i do think it lowers the tone with so many snappers, especially at a nude seminar. If i were the speaker or model i would find it quite rude. What are these people hoping to gain! Wink

The only camera in use should be that of the seminar photographer...not the brown mackers!

I don't shoot nude (i'd get the shakes) but like Shergy, I have no problem with it and am always amazed how we in this society, find it easier to allow our kids to watch war, gangster, horror and murder films etc than it is to show the human body in its natural form..odd!

I am a member of both the DWF and SWPP. I've only fairly recently started using the SWPP forum but personally I enjoy and benefit from both of them.

This forum seems to be a very friendly place indeed...(in fact one reason I dont post too often is that I get the impression most of you know each other and are already friends and I sometimes feel like I'm gatecrashing)...anyway I enjoy reading the posts and smile at much of the banter and have learned a lot and been grateful to those of you who've taken the trouble to answer the questions I've posted.
The DWF is slightly different, but from a business/commercial view point I have to confess I learn much more from it than the SWPP. So, for me BOTH forums are beneficial and enjoyable. I suppose it depends on what you are looking for.

I know it might seem like that but we are an open friendly forum who will take anyone on (we let Shergy and Dave Island in)  Cheesy .  Please join in!  If it looks like we all know each other is a merit for this forum.  It was not until last week at the convention that I met most of the regulars.  Apart from Phil B and Waltography I haven't met any of the others before.  I think this is the most friendly place on the internet!  And long may it continue!

I couldn't agree more with what Mr. Jinx said. Phillipe, I am a living example: they let me in the forum, by mistake, some 2-3 months ago and I am sure that they are regretting their mistake already Tongue I met most of the folks at the Convention, and I can guarantee you that in real flesh and bones, (hm, quite a few had a lot of flesh Smiley ) are even better than in here, and I cant understand how that is possible. I am comming from a forum where every day in there is a World War III. In here, even a Nikon vs. Canon ends up making new friends Smiley Strange, huh?!?

I still haven't met anyone outside this forum and most of the time I have nothing sensible to contribute most of the time but it becomes addictive and there is a wealth of knowledge out there to draw on and they are friendly.

If I'd taken mine I would now have some half decent images of you lovely people. Instead I just have hazy memories of a fantastic week culminating in a rather inebriated time around a grand piano.  Fair point otherwise - I didn't take mine except to the trade show to get the sensor cleaned on the 5D.

What do you mean BAD ties - they are collectors items my love.  There are only two of them left on the entire planet.  Tell em Jay.   Cry
