Drove down from Manchester to Essex last night to stay with friends ahead of the convention. Left at 6.00am this morning to drive to Hammersmith in time for Jinx & Waltographys talk at 8.00 ...only to break down on the M25 at 6.45 - arrgh!! Had to wait 50 mins stood in the pouring rain waiting for RAC. Then got towed to garage where I was given a £200 bill for airflow meter or something.

Now have to pass 3 hours waiting for it to be repaired. Absolutely gutted, was really looking forward to seeing Jinx, Walt and Jeff Ascough this morning.

Now sat around writing this on my phone. Anybody near broxbourne??

Nowhere near Broxbourne I'm afraid, but I used to live there many years ago and there is a quick train service to London.

Thanks both, don't worry I knew it was a long shot!

Need to get car back at 1pm before going to London but will get train from broxbourne like you say as don't fancy breaking down in London!

To pass time I'm making myself a photo assignment to take photos of Broxbuurne with my phone - should be fun?!?

Oh so sorry you missed it Neil. Hope you get some good photos with your phone!

Bernie and I got the Euston last night just as they made an announcement that someone had jumped under a train at Leighton Buzzard (where Bernie lives). So we decided to go as far as Tring (my station) and my lovely hubby would pick us up and then take Bernie home. We get on to hear that they've stopped all the trains on that track. Seemed a bit mad as the train we were getting was finishing at Tring anyway. In the end we got on a slow train to Watford Junction (Bernie standing all the way and me getting a seat one stop before Watford). When I say it was slow, it was slow! It stopped at all 20 stations between Euston and Watford Junction. We were packed in like sardines. It was hot as hell.

But it was all worth it. The show was great.

Following on from me starting this moaning thread on Saturday morning here are some of the pics I took whilst wandering round Broxbourne for almost three hours waiting for my car to be fixed.  Unfortunately I found out two things - the camera on the iphone is pretty pants and the battery life is rubbish!  Still, on the flip side Broxbourne is a lovely area, there are certainly worse places to kill time!  Cheesy

Er, yeah I live near Broxbourne. But I can't understand why you are near there if you came from Manchester!!!!

I stayed with friends in Harlow on Friday and Saturday night - so wasn't driving direct from Manchester.

I can understand your  frustration - I left Norwich at 9:00 Friday morning and got to the convention at about noon.  Went into John Balkie's session - 2 minutes later got a phone call from my wife to say that her mother had died totally out of the blue that morning and please  come back to Norfolk and take her up to her family in Grimsby.  10 minutes later on the Picadilly line back to Liverpool St and the next train to Norwich.  All in all - 20 minutes in total at the convention rather than the 3 days, party and awards night I had planned.  My mother in law was a lovely lady but had less than impeccable timing I'm afraid - God rest her soul.

Very sorry to hear that Nic.  Makes me realise how trivial my problems actually were.

Thanks Neil

Hope it didn't come across as "my story's worse than yours".

I just hope next year things work out a better.
